My Story

I was a parent, a teacher and a CPA for many years before returning to school to become a naturopathic physician.  I’m often asked why and how I made such a big change.  I’ll tell you the story…

I lost my dad to cancer in 2001.  That experience, while hard, taught me some great lessons.

Twenty-eight years earlier, my father had nearly lost his life in an automobile accident.  With the understanding of the fragility of life that only such an experience can bring, he resolved to live the rest of his life to the fullest.  He celebrated every day, every hour:  there was no wasted time, no insignificant human interaction.  Every moment was a chance to create a blessing.  By the time he passed away, he had lived twenty-eight “bonus” years in this appreciative frame of mind, leaving a legacy of happy memories to those who loved him.

At the time Dad passed on, I realized that I wasn’t living life to the fullest.  I had a demanding job that paid me well, but wasn’t personally fulfilling. My many hours at work had created tension within my family.  Determined to put my personal path and relationships right, I embarked on self-development work.  I learned that each unsatisfying aspect of my life was attributable to not fully believing in myself:  I had given away my power to set my own true course.  My “personal work” helped me realize that I am – as we all are – magnificent, and deserving of the best life has to offer.  With this understanding came the freedom to set personal and professional goals aligned with my deepest desires.

My re-empowerment helped me achieve great happiness in life, and create happiness around me. I took the necessary steps to resolve our family tension, in the process enriching my relationships with my daughters. I then considered my professional life, asking myself the classic question:  “What would you do if you knew you could not fail?”  I knew I wanted to make a direct difference in people’s lives, to empower them to live to their potential.  I chose to do this by becoming a naturopathic physician. A naturopathic physician believes that each of us is created according to nature’s exquisite design, and that by appreciating and living in integrity with that design, we achieve radiant health. Radiant health in turn frees us to pursue the path of our heart.

Step by step, I completed the prerequisite courses for medical school.  During this time I also began my study of Jin Shin Do acupressure, a beautiful art which taught me to diagnose and heal with my hands.  Finally, with my children in college, I relocated from southern California to Portland, OR to attend the four-year accredited doctoral program in naturopathic medicine at the National College of Natural Medicine.  It was there that I discovered my passion for treating people with cancer and those who love them.

But no matter the condition for which you seek help, I start by reflecting back to you your inner beauty and strength.  As I believe in you, you will believe in yourself, and you will achieve ever more radiant health of body and spirit.  From there, the possibilities are endless.
